The Way Things Are

The bronze walnuts each enclose a pair of stainless steel ball bearings. These tactile objects roll in your palm of your hand, the weight of the bronze meeting with the steel balls to make a bell-like sound. Titled 'The Way Things Are', this is an artwork about love.  The protective and ornamented coating of the shell is a metaphor for a close relationship. There is a promise of permanence in the materials of bronze and steel which is reinforced by the title.

As an unlimited multiple, the work is a celebration of the many close relationships arising over a lifetime and the safety we may find inside the protective shell of friendship and understanding.

The walnuts are handmade in Melbourne and each weighs approximately 80 grams. They are sold in pairs and each walnut of the pair is distinctive.
